2012-2013 Approved School Calendar The approved 2012-2013 school calendar. I would like to bring your attention to a change in regards to early release days for 2012-2013. Currently, the monthly non preholiday release days are on Thursdays. A Calendar Ad Hoc Committee reviewed the district calendar schedule including days when students are dismissed early from school. The Committee’s suggestion was to change the early release days to Fridays, hoping to help working families. A survey was conducted and overwhelming parents favored the early release day change to Fridays. Subsequently, the School Committee approved the 2012-2013 school calendar at their 1/26/12 meeting, reflecting this change. Some educators fear student attendance will drop with release days on Fridays. My expectation is that students will try to attend school on all of the 180 days that we are in session. My belief is that teachers will conduct their release day lessons as they would any other day.
